spring hutch

hi everyone! this is the piece that liz referred to in last thursdays post!

it was a great find at the auction. as you can see above, it just needed a little tlc!

i decided to go with a springlike blue and yellow palette. i have always been a fan of that color combination and thought it would be a nice fit for this piece. the original hardware was in great working order and just needed a little cleaning.

i love the way the distressing allows the original finish to peak through! there is a signature on the piece from when it was built - 1930!

a little stencil on the newly replaced glass and some french wallpaper lining the drawer really bring this piece to life. mmmmm!

It's really lovely! I seriously can't wait to come visit your store at the end of the month. I went to UMass in the late 80's but have been living in Seattle since 1995.

My husband and I are visiting family in MA at the end of the month and going to Northampton (and your shop) is on the agenda!

What a difference some paint made to that hutch!
The paint with the distressing really brings out the scroll work on top and the detail all over.

I like the color combination of blue and yellow too. (although at the moment can't think of anything I own with it--)

the paper lining the drawer is a nice touch too.

did the crackle paint happen naturally or did you apply some kind of special paint? it's really great looking!

the crackle was a lucky result of the paint poly combo. no special effects here ;)
